TREE OF LIFE — 2019/2021
Sculpture, diameter 1.80 m
Bronze, stainless steel, glass and gemstones
Within a sphere representing the universe, multiple Trees of Life and geometric structures converge. At their centre, a Vitruvian self-portrait is sculpted in concave relief. As the viewer moves, the inverted figure appears to turn and follow their gaze, blurring the boundary between the observer and the observed.
Over the heart, the square of a Pythagorean Tree holds a 24-carat emerald. From this central point, a symbolic energy passes through nine hidden gates towards three stones at the rear of the sculpture, suggesting a passage into the universe.
Twelve precious and semi-precious gemstones, each symbolising one of the twelve signs of the zodiac, connect the human figure to the celestial universe. Together, they inscribe the work within the ancient symbolism of the Tree of Life, representing origin, transformation, connection and renewal.
