L 500 × Ø 50 cm Painted burlap and wire mesh Kyoto, 1993
Originally part of my Kimono installation in Kyoto in 1993, this painted burlap was given a second life in a completely different form.
The fabric, once associated with the folds and presence of a garment, became a long cylindrical sculpture resting directly on the ground, wrapped around a wire-mesh structure.
Removed from its original context, the material carries the memory of another work, another place and another time. Its transformation is less about recycling than about allowing an idea to continue its existence in an unexpected form.
